Sulbactam sodium is an irreversible competitive β-lactamase inhibitor. It inhibits β-lactamases produced by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (except Pseudomonas aeruginosa), irreversibly inactivating the enzyme through covalent binding. The enzyme's activity cannot be restored even after the inhibitor is eliminated.
