Vitamin K1 has limited body stores and can be fully depleted within 3–4 weeks. Regular dietary intake via the gastrointestinal tract is therefore essential. If absorption is impaired, hepatic synthesis of coagulation factors is inhibited, leading to prolonged prothrombin time, coagulopathy, and hemorrhagic manifestations. These include cutaneous/mucosal bleeding, visceral hemorrhage, postoperative/traumatic bleeding, neonatal hemorrhage, and other deep tissue bleeds.
