Dexmedetomidine hydrochloride is a highly selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It is primarily used for sedation in intubated and mechanically ventilated patients during surgery under general anesthesia, as well as for sedation in initially intubated and ventilated patients during intensive care treatment.
